Latest version of Microsoft MBSA 1.1.1 says:

Many non-administrator users are often members of the

There is not much "for sure" in security issues, just which side of a
compromise makes the most sense for you.
For me, one of the most compelling reasons to do this on a local workstation
copy of SQL is that only my SQL developers have this, and both i and they
would want to mimic the conditions the live system they are developing for
runs under as much as possible.
We've had issues in the past where a, pardon me, less diligent developer who
has had admin rights to everything on their dev machine didn't bother coding
to take security into account so their code wouldn't run on a live system
without a lot of re-working.

latest hotfixes and SP3
Hello everyone
I am very new at this and I really need your help.
We have purchased and installed an SQL Server 2000, Product Version: 8.00.760 (SP3) in a new Windows 2003 Server. I understand that I am not supposed to install SP3a. My system is up-to-date regarding critical updates from widows update service.
Can anyone tell me what additional hotfixes for SQL do I have to install in order to keep my system healthy?
I am confused because I placed a query on the Microsoft Security Bulletin Search Page for SQL Server 2000 (SP3) hotfixes (checked: Show only bulletins that contain patches that have not been replaced by a more recent patch.) and the results I got were:
1. Jan 13, 2004, Buffer Overrun in MDAC Function Could Allow Code Execution (832483): MS04-003, Affected Software: MDAC 2.5, MDAC 2.6, MDAC 2.7, MDAC 2.8
2. Jul 23, 2003, Cumulative Patch for Microsoft SQL Server (815495): MS03-031, Affected Software: SQL Server 7.0, Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE), Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000), SQL Server 2000
The first one (832483) is installed but the second is not. Does windows updates service install hotfixes for SQL Server or do I have to install them manually?
Do I have to install this Patch 815495?
Do I have to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A (This release includes the fixes for the Slammer (W32.slammer) worm)? (I found this on another page Most Popular Downloads)
Sorry for the length!
I thank you in advance for your time.
Don't install all of them that I can tell you. Only install the hotfixes if
you realy realy realy need them. I did install them all and it caused me
more trouble than it did good. Just wait patiently for SP4, I guess that's
much safer.

|||Hi,
If the issues in MS03-031 are applicable to you then apply MS03-031 with
826161 (this fixes a problem from MS03-031). This is the level we are aiming
at. Also SP4 should not be too long from now.

We have purchased and installed an SQL Server 2000, Product Version: 8.00.76

install SP3a. My system is up-to-date regarding critical updates from widow

order to keep my system healthy?
I am confused because I placed a query on the Microsoft Security Bulletin Se
arch Page for SQL Server 2000 (SP3) hotfixes (checked: Show only bulletins t
hat contain patches that have not been replaced by a more recent patch.) and
the results I got were:
1. Jan 13, 2004, Buffer Overrun in MDAC Function Could Allow Code Execution
(832483): MS04-003, Affected Software: MDAC 2.5, MDAC 2.6, MDAC 2.7, MDAC 2

The first one (832483) is installed but the second is not. Does windows upda

Do I have to install this Patch 815495?

I noticed in you question that you stated "I understand

this, I could not find anything in the documents about
SP3a that would supoort this?

latest enabled version of every document (was "help with sql please!")
Hi, I'm having trouble with some SQL. I have a document table which links to a document version table. I'd like to write a query to get the latest enabled version of every document - a resultset with one row per document. Is this possible with resorting to a cursor?
CREATE TABLE tblDoc (
DocId int
)
GO
CREATE TABLE tblDocVersion (
DocVersionId int,
DocId int,
DateCreated datetime,
IsEnabled bit
)
GO
INSERT INTO tblDoc (DocId) VALUES (1)
INSERT INTO tblDoc (DocId) VALUES (2)
INSERT INTO tblDocVersion (DocVersionId, DocId, DateCreated, IsEnabled) VALUES (1, 1, '8/8/2006' , 1)
INSERT INTO tblDocVersion (DocVersionId, DocId, DateCreated, IsEnabled) VALUES (1, 1, '9/9/2006' , 1)
INSERT INTO tblDocVersion (DocVersionId, DocId, DateCreated, IsEnabled) VALUES (1, 1, '10/10/2006' , 0)
INSERT INTO tblDocVersion (DocVersionId, DocId, DateCreated, IsEnabled) VALUES (1, 2, '8/8/2006' , 1)
INSERT INTO tblDocVersion (DocVersionId, DocId, DateCreated, IsEnabled) VALUES (1, 2, '11/11/2006' , 1)
Desired output:
DocId DocVersionId DateCreated
============================
1 2 9/9/2006
2 5 11/11/2006
Thanks!
MrsMUse a subquery:
select tblDocVersion.DocId,
tblDoVersion.DocVersionID,
tblDocVersion.DateCreated
from tblDocVersion
inner join --LastVersions
(select DocId,
max(DateCreated) as DateCreated
from tblDocVersion
group by DocId) LastVersion
on tblDocVersion.DocId = LastVersion.DocID
and tblDocVersion.DateCreated = LastVersion.DateCreated
By the way...why do you prefix your table name with "tbl"? Are you afraid you are going to forget what it is? Did your husbandBOB call and remind you to pick up some petfoodALPO for your dogFIDO today?|||ah nice, joining on a sub query - never thought of that, thanks a lot.

Latest build version?
Hi,
What is the latest patch level for SQL server 2000?
I am currently at this build level:
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.818 (Intel X86) May 31 2003 16:08:15 Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)
How can I tell when microsoft bring out a new SQL server hotfix or patch?Check out http://www.sqlsecurity.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=37. I think that they keep the list updated, but I could not tell you how frequently.
Note that with some of the patches that come out, you have to patch the client tools as well as the server.

Last Modified Date of the Database Object ?
Dear All,
In order to get a version control.
I would like to get the last modified date of the Store Procedure, Table De
finition
I find the the [sysobjects] Table ONLY contains a Create Date.
How can i find it.
Do SQL Server remember the [ALTER] and [RECOMPILE] time of these objects
Thank you very much
EricLunCurrent versions of SQL Server do not track modifications to objects, only
creation. You will have to track these yourself, or use a third party
product to do so. Your version control strategy, by the way, should not
rely on a feature of the product. In other words, if you were using version
control tools, you should have alter scripts stored in your source control
tool, without having to look at the database (other than to verify that what
is deployed exists in source control, or vice versa).
http://www.aspfaq.com/2495
Yukon will offer DDL triggers, but that's several months away, at least.
